Help us raise $30,000 to purchase 1000 copies of the Muhammad Asad Translation and Commentary of The Quran. This is an alternative translation of the Quran that will be provided to Western mosques, libraries, Muslim chaplaincies, and student associations. This work resolves many of the errors and oversights of other English translations, one example being women's rights.

[UPDATE 1:21 pm]: Reply from Andrew Sullivan:

thanks, ali

andrew

Guess it is just a case of being in good company.

1. December 13, 2006, 12:21 p.m EST., Andrew Sullivan made a post in which he compares the current Middle East crisis, specifically the relationship of the Sunnis to Shiites, to the European 30 Years War. He also argues that the United States was responsible for creating the conditions for this war. He received feedback on this comparison and posted about it at 3:58 p.m. EST.

2. December 13, 2006, 10:59 am EST, I made a post in which I compared the current Middle East crisis to the 30 years war. (The timestamp on my blog says 7:59 am EST but the Scoop software has Eastern Standard Time three hours early so it is actually 10:59 am).

3. September 6, 2006, 9:29 EST, I made a post in which I compared the current Middle East crisis -- specifically the relationships of the Sunni to the Shia -- to the 30 years war. I also said that the United States was responsible for creating the conditions for the war.

4. In the September 6, 2006, post, I trackbacked to Sullivan's blog at 10:47 am, EST saying "Sistani Gives Up | Muslim 30 Years War Starts" (scroll to bottom).

5. On September 6, 2006 at 9:33 am EST, I emailed Andrew Sullivan explicitly telling him about the comparison to the 30 Years War.

Andrew,

I think instead of talking about invading Iran you need to be talking about the hole that is Iraq.

Sistani has given up. He has conceded authority to Sadr. I make the argument that we have started the 30 years war.

Look forward to your insight.

6. Google reveals no writers comparing the situation between the Sunnis and Shi'a in the Middle East to the Thirty Years War prior to September 6th when I did it.

7. The only Google reference that include Iraq and thirty years were bloggers discussing the possibility that the US may occupy Iraq for thirty to fifty years. 1, 23

Q.E.D - Bad Blogging Etiquette

Not the first time it has happened. Jihadwatch ripped off links that I found before, and thankfully confessed doing so.

I'm getting quite tired of bad blogging etiquette. I tolerate it from rookies because I was a rookie once and people tolerated it from me; but I don't have to tolerate it from professional bloggers.

I have to say that I hope all this is not true b/c I like Andrew Sullivan very much.

Andrew Sullivan and Christianism question(none / 0) (#4)
by Hannah on Thu Dec 14, 2006 at 11:51:40 AM EST

I have to say, I used to have a higher opinion of AS than I do now. While I commend him for being interested in exposing what he calls "Christianism", I think many of his posts about Islam have been beneath him. I think that deep down he doesn't really believe that Islam is an acceptable faith; he's not willing to see us as Muslims as real people of real faith. Plus he's snippy and mean about hijab. He doesn't have to like it, but as a person of faith himself he shouldn't mock it as a sincere form of religious expression. He certainly has many fine and courageous points, and he adds to the conversation, though. I guess it's because of that that I can be so disappointed in him.

Back to the Christianism thing, do any of you know any sites that collect and report incidents of Christianism/ Christianist vandalism, violence, coercion?
