Big Akhi is watching us.

Days after I wonder whether the big orthodox Muslim orgs are going to support Keith Ellison (and then plaster that post all over the big time Muslim listservs including one on which you have the President of ISNA), you get a press release from ISNA praising and approving Keith Ellison. In fact, they "salute" him. As glorified orthodox organizations should, ISNA drops the "advice" (naseehah) on them thar Muslims. I love it.

Advice to Muslims

Ellison anticipates many more challenges for him as well as for other Muslim Americans in the future. He emphasized the need to unite, to stick together, and to turn to the Qur’an. “If we believe in Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, if we turn to the Quran for guidance,” he said, “we’ll find an answer to the questions we have. . .we’ll find that we are an asset and a plus not only to our own community, but to this country, and to this whole world."

Someone please tell the media and the right wing islamophobes that the allegedly fundamentalist and Ikhwani Muslim org are "saluting" a guy who supports gay rights and is pro-choice.
